Mary's Famous Homemade Cookies

Chocolate chip cookies might be the universal flavor (alt: taste) of love. I think nearly everyone has fond memories of enjoying fresh baked treats, staring at the plate of cooling cookies, waiting for permission from the baker that they're cool enough to avoid burning our tongues. Plenty of taste buds were sacrificed for the sake of gobbling up too hot cookies, and I stand by those decisions.


The smell of these cookies baking in the oven feels like walking back into my mom's home, and brings me back to some of my favorite memories. After losing my mom, baking cookies using her recipe was another way I could reconnect with her and create new memories with my own family.


Mary's Famous Homemade Cookies


INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 cup butter, softened

  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar

  • 3/4 packed brown sugar

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 2 large eggs

  • 2 cups Nestle Toll House ® Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels


DIRECTIONS:

  1. Preheat oven to 375. degrees.

  2. Combine flour, baking soda, and salt in small bowl.

  3. Beat the butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla extract in a large mixer until creamy. Add eggs in, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in chocolate morsels (and/or nuts if you prefer!)

  4. Drop rounded tablespoons onto un-greased baking sheets.

  5. Bake for 9-11 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely.
